One People, One World

Walking into the small shop, One World, One People, in downtown Anchorage, Alaska you feel a certain vibe. This may be brought on by shop owner, Trevor Rennie.
The store is cluttered with many different things from many foreign places. Some of these being China, Guatemala, Mexico, and Peru. Rennie comes across his merchandise by traveling around the world, recommendations from customers, and the local natives. The store has many different types of merchandise hanging from the ceiling, cascading from the shelves, and scattering the floor. Everything is vibrant, colorful and full of energy.
The motto of the store, quoted by Rennie, “We embrace all cultures, reach out, and touch each other.” His definition of this is that he sees everyone equally, and that we are all one race and should unite as one. When you walk into the store you can see this. You can also feel a certain vibe, uplifting. The store reflects many cultures, not just one, and many native Alaskan cultures along with other foreign cultures.
Business like might have been our first impression, but he wasn’t. With a bit of an accent he tells how he came to America from Trinidad and Tobago. He simply explains that his wife made him. Along with his humor we found that he was very kind and generous. After the interview he gave us free face jewels out of kindness.
Through his personality and character you could see that he was trying to live his theme of the store as his life’s motto. With a little bit of generosity as he showed to us, you can lift anyone’s day that is going bad. Even a simple smile will do.
