Alaska Is:

A land of contrasts:
Black volcanic mountains and white ice fields,
Purple fireweed and chocolate lilies,
Rustic campgrounds and busy cities,
Rowdy baseball games and quiet journaling,
Peanut butter sandwiches and grilled halibut and salmon,
Beautiful log homes and abandoned shacks
Joy at seeing new vistas and respectful silence in appreciation of nature.

Final Reflection:
We started as a group of79 individuals from Marshall, MI. We have explored and discovered Alaska. We have seen beautiful vistas, unique animals, and informative displays at museums. We have traveled over two thousand miles in vans while camping, cooking, and hiking together. We will be returning to Marshall, not as 79 individuals, but as a large and caring family. We use teamwork to build friendships, to learn and accomplish tasks. We have shared laughter, wonderment, and even sadness. This “family” evolvement is what makes the Alaskan experience special.
Ishtar has worked for the past year to make the 2006 trip possible. Without his leadership and planning, this experience would not happen. As an adult participant for seven years, I am appreciative of the opportunity to participate. Each trip is better than the last. Thank you to all the students, to the other drivers, and to Ishtar for “being there.”
