Flying over Alaska

What would you do if your family owned an airplane? Cindy Webb and her family own an airplane and travel around Alaska on family vacations. Cindy Webb moved to Alaska in 1976 at the age of 6 so her mom could work on the pipeline.
Webb has lived in Alaska for the past 30 years and grew up knowing the seclusion of Alaska as her home. When Webb first moved to Alaska she thought it was boring, but she eventually made friends and enjoyed riding her bike in the country. “I grew up just like any other country kid…playing with friends,” Webb said.
Webb has a part time job working for her church teaching a Bible study class. She likes to go hiking and camping with her family. Webb and her family own an airplane that they keep in their yard. Alaska is still so much a wilderness that they need the airplane to get to really nice and isolated camping and hiking spaces. “If you really want to get around and see the state or if you want to camp and not have a bunch of people around you, you really need an airplane,” Webb said.
With her part time job and home-schooled daughter, Sarah, Webb has a lot of time to travel. Since her daughter Sarah is going to a private school next year Webb has been taking advantage of her spare time to go hiking and camping with Sarah. “We hop in the airplane and fly out. We go hiking and catch some pike to cook for dinner.” Webb also loves to go camping. “ My favorite thing about camping is listening to the birds and the quiet and just being out in nature,” Webb said.
Webb loves the scenery of Alaska and can’t see herself living anywhere else. “The scenery, its just gorgeous, its always different. I mean, you just never get tired of looking at it,” Webb said. “One day the sun might be on the mountain and it’ll be really gorgeous and another day there will be rain clouds over it and its still as pretty.”
