Alaska Is...

Alask is...the journey, not the destination.

Final Reflections

Nine trips to Alaska with the AGLP! This is something we (Mike and Marlene) can boast about. Why do we keep on traveling with groups of teenagers from Marshall when we live in East Lansing? It all started with sitting next to Dale Rosene at Michigan State University hockey games. We would buy raffle tickets and hear all about the incredible Alaskan adventures. Next, we wrote “the” letter indicating our interest. And we became food van drivers in 1999
Through the years, we have been awed by the beautiful scenery of glaciers, mountains, forests, and wild flowers. We have seen and learned about ocean and other Alaska animals. We have explored the towns of Homer, Seward, Palmer, Fairbanks, Talkeetna, and Anchorage. We know the location of the best gift shops, breakfast restaurants, grocery stores, and Laundromats. We have been on bus rides and boat rides. We have hiked mountains and glaciers. We have done 10k races by running or walking.
But the best thing about the AGLP trips is to experience Alaska through the eyes of all participants. Working and laughing with the other adult drivers is another highlight of the trip. We have developed many life long friendships with the drivers. This is why we keep on returning year after year.
Thank you, Ishtar, for selling us raffle tickets and accepting us into your AGLP family. We appreciate what you do to make this trip happen.
