A Day Of Leisure
June 19, 2008

We woke up this morning bright and early eager to leave the church in Palmer and get a taste of the Alaskan wilderness, however we had to do some cleaning up before we could leave. Everyone helped to clean the church from top to bottom, and we even helped the church by coloring pictures for the VBS. It took a few hours to clean and get the vans packed and ready to go. By the time we left it was about 10:30 in the morning. We stopped in the small village of Talkeetna to eat lunch and look around in the shops. This small town is the place where many people who climb Mount McKinley prepare for their trek up the mountain. Ishtar decided to create a fun contest and he would buy the winner ice cream; the contest was to stay in the outhouse for one minute and thirty seconds. The entire Wolf van pilled into the outhouse and stayed in for the whole time so Ishtar had to buy everyone in that van ice cream.
We wandered  around in the gift shops for about an hour or so and then packed back into the vans and continued driving. A lot of vans played games to pass the time away. One van played a game where you say a celebrities name and the last letter of the name becomes  the first letter of the next person, this can be played with movies or songs titles as well. Other vans played games where they could get to know one another, like the game two truths and a lie. In this game you say two true facts and one false one and everyone else has to guess which is the lie. It was a fun way to get to know each other and pass the time away.

We arrived at Grizzly Bear campgrounds and immediately set up tents. The rest of the time was free time, some people played cards, others played 20 questions, and still others read or walked around and talked; it was a pretty laid back day but it was still fun. I think everyone enjoyed  a little bit of freedom  and be able to do what they wanted with their free time.
