Daily Report from the Journalism Committee:
Junior Leader Retreat
Written by Emily May
It was a cool evening at Camp Kitchi Kippi where all the Junior Leaders gathered for their pre-trip training. Many of us had spent some time at the car wash that same day, but for others it was a time to bond, grow, and learn. It was exciting to learn about the other Junior Leaders and who they were.
We started the retreat of by coming up with game to play as a group, only after breaking up into pairs of two. Coming up with a game was challenging for some, but for others coming up with a game was a piece of cake. Some games included running, jumping, and working as a team. The games were all fun and after the game was done we talked about what could be better about them, and everyone took each other’s advice. Next we went into the field and played a few games. Soon after we went inside to talk about what a Junior Leader is and talking about the up coming trip. After about an hour we went and got dinner. We went and all ate around the fire pit talking and laughing, bonding even more. We did some exercises to practice leadership, then returned back inside to do some preparation for the training the next day.
After a long day of training to become better leaders, we enjoyed a nice campfire roasting marshmallows to make s’mores, and talking about school, and the trip. Unfortunately it started to rain and many of us went inside to hang out. We soon went to bed and were awaiting the next day of training at the middle school. Over all I believe that we all took things away from the retreat and the bond we have is something we all share.
