THE FINAL GOODBYES OF JOHN DROZD

The sound of airplanes taking off, and the hundreds of people rushing to their flights. For many people, being at an airport means going on vacation or getting to see loved ones, but for John Drozd it is a whole different story.
John found out that he had cancer in his neck about three years ago. Unfortunately, two years ago it spread to his lungs. Hardly being able to converse with me, he had to take a brake to get water. Without any water he can’t talk.
Getting back to our interview, he tells me about his trip to go see his childhood friend. He is flying to Kodiak Island, Akaka from Chicago, Illinois. John exclaimed, ” I am most looking forward to seeing my friend but also seeing the Kodiak Bears. I can’t wait to go salmon fishing and going on boat rides with my friend.”
John is only going to Alaska for twelve days because his cancer only gives him a short time to live. He wants to see his old friends, but he also wants to get back to see his son and three grandchildren. “ I am like their personal taxi cab driver. I take them to their sports and school activities.
For John it may be the end, but for adventure it is only the beginning. As I walked away from this interview, a lump swelled in my throat as I thought about this unfortunate old man.
