Sara Dillman-An Experienced Alaskan Traveler

Sara Dillman was obviously still trying to wake up as I interviewed her on the last day of her sixth trip to Alaska.  Sara, who came in eighth grade as a participant in the AGLP program to Alaska, then the next year as a junior leader, is enjoying her fourth time coming as a driver.  When asked if she is enjoying this trip as much as the others, she quickly responds, “Yes, very much so.”
Sara says that the differences between participant and driver are very noticeable.  “The participants are in charge of everything, while the drivers just move people around.  There is a lot less work and a lot less responsibility.”  Her favorite parts of the trip haven’t changed since her eighth grade year.  “Seward on a sunny day is beautiful, and of course I love Homer; everybody does.”
Sara says that this particular trip has been special. “I have seen a lot more comaradery and bonding between the kids than I’ve seen in previous years.”  Therefore, Sara is very sad to be leaving.  “I will cry,” she says. Sara also says to anyone who is considering coming back to Alaska for a second time, “Every time you come to Alaska, the trip is totally different.  The second time is definitely the best.” This isn’t the last Alaska will see of Sara; she says she will be coming back next year.  But for the rest of this trip, she will be missed.
