Alaska Is...

Alaska is beautiful.  It’s always changing.  There are animals and mountains wherever you look.  The people are so nice and helpful too.  The time has flown by and I will miss it.

Final Reflections

Alaska has been amazing.  We have done so much, but the things that are most memorable to me are climbing mountains, camping in tents, the talent shows and the participants becoming a close family.
Climbing mountains is hard work.  Sometimes you want to quit, but when you get to the top and see the view you know the hike was worth it.  Being at the top of a mountain is something I can’t describe.  It’s amazing.
Camping in tents is a lot of fun.  You get really close to the people in your tent.  Before I came I thought that sleeping on the ground in a tent outside in the cold would be horrible.  Come to find out, tents are awesome.  The ground isn’t that hard.  Sure it’s cold out, but you snuggle up in your sleeping bag and go back to sleep.  Plus, with six people in a small tent you keep each other warm.  I actually slept well.
Another thing I liked was the talent show.  Seeing everyone’s talent is so cool.  Lots of people did different things.  There was dancing, singing, translating into Romanian and lots of other things.  I love to watch and be in the shows.
The most memorable thing for me was the people.  We spent three weeks together.  We were in vans with the same eight people every day, so you got to know those people very well.  Same with the six people in your tent.  We all became a big family.  When we go home I will miss seeing everyone every day.  Getting to know people on this trip and making more friends will be good for starting high school next year.

I learned a lot on this trip.  I learned about Alaska, its people and their heritages.  I also learned a lot about myself and other people.  When you spend three weeks with people, you see other sides of them that you normally don’t see.  I want to come back as a junior leader sometime.  Alaska is an amazing experience.  I’m glad I got this opportunity.
