Alaska Is...

Alaska is…a chance to grow, to learn, and meet new friends.  It is a place to watch whales, admire the sound of the waves against the shore, the sight of the awe-inspiring mountains in the distance, the smell of flowers and spruce tress and pine, the feel of exhilaration after climbing a mountain and seeing the top, the taste of freshly caught halibut after 12 hours of watching whales in the ocean.  Alaska is a time of exhilaration, a time of experience and a time of enlightenment.

Final Reflections

AGLP 2009 has been an eye-opening experience for me as not only a junior beader but as a person as well.  I have had a chance to work with a great group of incoming freshman that are hardworking, charismatic and who usually have a great sense of humor.  For one of the first times in my life I have been given the opportunity to accept a leadership role during this trip which has given me a way to grow and change as a person.  Before this trip I had a few friends but was a little shy and hesitant about opening up to new people.  But during these exciting and fun filled three weeks I have been able to meet new friends not only from the participants in my van or committee but from everyone involved with and part of this trip.  I have also grown as a leader on this trip; figuring out new ways to accomplish tasks, ideas for better productivity and advice to help me become a better leader in the future.  This trip has helped me in more ways than I can think of.  It has given me a lot of self-confidence, many new friends, and new found respect for the world in which I live.
