Alaska Is...

Alaska is…a sunshine mountain view—a sparkly roadside lake—a cool evening breeze—a day without night—but best of all a place to learn more about ourselves, no matter how many times we’ve been here.

Final Reflections

A trip to Alaska is a journey back in time; to a time when things moved more slowly; when life revolved around the simple things; to a time when people cared more about and helped each other.
Where but Alaska can you explore the lives of and converse with a pioneer? Mossy Kilcher and her family open their homestead and past to our preying and inquisitive eyes. They reward our wonder with love and song.
Where but Alaska can a chilly shower, a foggy mountain, a “smelly” outhouse, bumpy ground under a tent, and wearing the same clothes for three days in a row, all feel great, but bring frowns to those back home.
Where but Alaska will people bend the rules for kids, change schedules to accommodate, as the Bear Creek Weir did. The opportunity to capture the energy of kids (as Captain Jack did for our whale watch), and can open their arms and hearts to 65 young people when much of the rest of the world reacts with fear.
Where but Alaska? We need to take back a piece of that Alaska to our own homes, our own communities, and our own lives. Alaska is a special place. Everywhere we are and go can have some of that same magic if we choose to take it with us and share it.
