Beautiful Alaska
by Summer Katz

Peter Theil is a middle aged, German man traveling from San Francisco, California to Alaska. He is here along with his wife and two of their close friends. They chose to come to Alaska because of the wonderful things they have heard and the beautiful pictures they have seen of this great state. Peter lives in San Francisco with his wife, and has two grown children, both living in San Francisco.
Theil and his group have been here a few days now and, so far, are enjoying their time greatly. “Alaska has been great, we love it,” Peter said. They have been site seeing and hiking, taking advantage of all the daylight hours available. “I really like how it never gets dark here in Alaska,” Peter said.
Peter has worked as a scientist for a Biotech company for three years. He tests what certain drugs do to the human body when they are taken.  He studies their affect and gives feedback on how they could be improved to better benefit patients. “I love my job and hope to continue on with it for quite a while,” Peter said. His favorite parts of being a scientist are the many new things he learns each day and the feeling he gets from knowing he’s making a difference in people’s lives. Theil picked this career versus any other career because of how rewarding and fascinating he thinks science is.
This is Peter’s first time coming to Alaska. He has wanted to come to Alaska for a while now and now that he has finally had the chance to experience Alaska, really enjoys it here. He and his group are looking forward to climbing mountains, going fishing, hiking more of the local trails and seeing more of the beautiful scenery. “Hopefully, we will return one day,” Peter says.
