Something to Keep Busy
By Summer Katz
You’d never know how many reasons why people move to Alaska until you ask. Eighty-one year old Ralph Wesser, moved to Alaska four years ago when his wife died so he could be closer to his seven sons. “I love it here,” Wesser said.
Ralph retired from a Marine cooperation where he was in charge of data processing for motors and engines. He would travel out of the country to China, Canada, and Australia every now and then. Currently, Wesser is living in Wassila, Alaska and he sells handmade pens and key chains at Farmer’s Markets.  He really enjoys working with wood and has been making wooden pens and key chains on his free time for fifthteen years. “It’s just something to do to keep me busy,” Ralph said.
Being in Alaska is some what the same as living in Wisconsin. For Wesser, apart for the beauty of Alaska, the weather is very similar. “They both have warm summers and cold winters with lots of snow,” explains Ralph.
Ralph really likes how beautiful Alaska is and is glad that he moved here. He will probably stay here for the rest of his life.
