Alaska Is...

Alaska is the last frontier. The rawest place I’ve ever been. Alaska is the place where I’ve made some of the best friends I have. Alaska is a place to grow, place to find out who you are as a person. Alaska is a place where it’s okay to break the common mold. Without Alaska, I wouldn’t be so outgoing, I wouldn’t be able to say I’ve seen a humpback whale, and I wouldn’t be the person I am today. Alaska is one of the only places left in the world that is just truly amazing.

Final Reflections

Coming back as a junior leader was an easy choice. I loved being in Alaska, I love being a part of AGLP, and I loved the connections and friendships I’ve made. From the beginning, even before the trip, I had my concerns. I thought I wouldn’t get any respect, I thought I wouldn’t get along with a lot of the participants, and I was just scarred that I wouldn’t make good friends, but ever since we stepped onto those greyhound buses, my concerns quickly dropped like flies. For one, being only a year older than the participants, I believed it would be hard to earn respect, but it turned out to be easy. I thought that the grade below me was not the best, but as it turns out, I have grown to love a lot of them. They really are a special class. Lastly, I have made some of the most interesting, most hilarious, most understanding, and most comforting friends I could ever ask for. I feel truly blessed to have been able to come on this trip and to be able to meet these people. I mean how often do you get to see a group of about 40 kids change and grow as people before you eyes? For me, it only happens in Alaska.
