Daily Report from the Journalism Committee
All of Life by
One of life's most precious enjoyments is life itself, in every conceivable form. From the biggest whale in the widest ocean to the minuscule phytoplankton that it eats, life is all around us. The sleepy participants woke up to a place surrounded by life today. As we stepped out of our tents the first things that met our eyes is the sun reflecting off of the jagged mountains as they cut into the pale blue sky. The first thing our nose meets is the crisp, fresh mountain air as it mixes with the salt water in the wind. And the first thing we know is that we are in Alaska, somewhere many people will only ever dream of being. The sights blurred by as the Homer Spit came into view, the water splashing against the sturdy docks that we were soon to be on. Laying on our stomachs reaching into the water we all looked into the water for the colorful and various forms of sea life that reside underneath. Conrad Field, a fascinating person and naturalist who has endless knowledge of marine and plant life, was there explaining the wide variety of life that we held in our hands. There are so many things that are left to be discovered it astounds me all of the time. Things that we will someday find out, and some things that we will never fully understand, but that is life, and it is the same in every form.
