A Day of Firsts by
Today was great day for everyone. We got up to breakfast, then were on our way to The Kenai Fjords Boat Tour, a boat ride that will not soon be forgotten. The ride started of slow with classes giving us information about the wildlife we were eager to see. We then ran in to thousands of birds, such as puffins and seagulls. At this time, we also found large groups of sea lions resting on rocks, as well as playing with one another in the water. On the trip we also encountered a few jellyfish. Soon enough, the boat ride would be one of a lifetime. At the point we were preparing to turn around, we saw something blow water up out of the ocean. Soon enough, we saw what it was: we had seen a hump back whale! Not much after, we saw a few orcas. An hour or so was spent watching them, enjoying them doing there jumps, and of course, taking many pictures. On the way back, we also ran into other water mammals: Doll porpoises. What a way to cap off a great day! Back on land, we went to the weir, where the ocean's salmon are tallied and controlled to make the reproduction of them go more smoothly. We got the chance to net a few of the fish if we so desired, which was a fun time for all, yet the best was still to come: the company gave us free salmon! The evening was then spent filleting them, cooking them, and devouring them fresh salmon. A great way to cap another amazing day in Alaska.
