Alaska Is...

Alaska is life. The soft wind whistling through the trees is only Alaska’Äôs exhale. The mountains and valleys are imperfections of Alaska’Äôs complexity. The mountains see everything. They are idols of Alaska looking down on us. The mountains have seen everything good and bad. They are a remembrance of our accomplishments in building this lone piece of land into a populated picturesque dot on the map of our earth. The mountains also know. They know where the dahl sheep are going as they trot across the shear surface of the mountains cliff. They know where the bears scavenge for berries at the peak of perfection. The mountains know that they control the clouds of rain that clean Alaska’Äôs surface with each little drop of water. The mountains know we reside with them, rather than against them. Alaska is life. The water swiftly follows the surface of land into the ocean. The rivers are a center for every little creature; to drink, to bathe, and even to live in. The crystal clear water gushing down a crevice of Alaska. Crashing into the rocks along its way is one of the most serene elements of Alaska’Äôs life. We are here to experience these beauties. We are also here to clean it of trash. To uncover the precious gems that can be covered by a single insignificant gum wrapper. Alaska is life and we shall leave no trace on its surface.

Final Reflections

For me, the AGLP trip has been a time to mature. We do a lot of tasks that move us closer to adulthood. Managing our own money, taking care of our own stuff, washing our own clothes. We have to take care of ourselves and become more independent.
